Things have been quite busy here at Strohl HQ, lots of new and exciting projects that we’ll be sharing in the next few months. Nevertheless, we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to share a project that many of you have already seen, our icon development for Google Drive, done in collaboration with our fine friends at Upperquad. The mobius icon speaks to the seamless syncing of your files both online and on your desktop, while fitting within Google’s staggering array of services. The votes are in, and winners selected for the Type Directors Club 58th annual competition. We’ve returned from a whirlwind trip to New York City where Eric judged this years show with a fantastic panel — Frank Chimero, Ray Fenwick, Louise Fili, Jason Santa Maria, Kevin Smith and Jason Schulte. Many thanks to the team at the TDC for all their hospitality and coordination. Look for an amazing book and traveling exhibition later this year.
And while you’re at it, why don’t you head over to the TDC website and become a member? Not only will you receive one of the last hardbound design annuals still in publication (the current TDC 57 designed by our own Christine and Matteo Bologna), but you’ll be supporting an important organization committed to excellence in typography and design.

Remember the classic 50s sweatshirt that our Dads owned—the ones they still wear to this day? Well, they’re back – and just like they once were, made in America. Today we’re proud to announce the launch of the American Giant brand, for which we created the identity and brand system. This innovative company focuses on quality and fit, cutting out distributors (only sold online) in order to bring you classically tailored garments made right here in the USA.
The delta icon both combines the A and G letterforms, and forms a pinnacle, speaking to the enduring American work ethic and spirit. The typography and color palettes harken back to the post-WWII era of American prosperity and manufacturing.
