The Catamount is the newest restaurant from Ray Tang, owner of the wildly popular Presidio Social Club in San Francisco. The serene space is housed in what was originally a schoolhouse, in downtown Los Gatos, CA.
The Catamount bar is a large gathering place for post work drinks and snacks. We wanted to divide the space from the formal dining room, and as such gave it a distinct identity. From this was born the La Rinconada Bar, adapting the history of Los Gatos and the historical wild cats that once inhabited the region.
The Catamount inhabits a space that was once a schoolhouse. The restaurant is quite formal, but we wanted to lighten things up a bit for dessert. Flashcards and a school inspired typeface to the rescue. We used images displaying both unappetizing food and awkward social situations, which made for fun conversations all around.
RAMPANT MENU STEALING = SUCCESSFUL ENDEAVOR
The website is an important tool to attract people to the restaurant not just for dinner, but for larger events. We captured the feel of the airy space with simple navigation and minimal graphics.
Another opportunity to lighten things up are the industry nights and parties. We designed various posters and flyers for upcoming events without being tethered to the formal identity.
